Charlie Rivel is the public name of the masterful circus performer of Cubelles, Josep Andreu i Lasserre. He moved entire generations of spectators with his moon-worshipping and heart-warming character. All he needed was a guitar, a chair and his talent to connect with the audience.
His stage name was due to his admiration of Charles Chaplin. According to legend, he won a competition of Charlie Chaplin imitators, despite Charlie Chaplin himself having taken part (undercover). At the end of the competition, Chaplin approached Rivel and asked him "Is it you imitating me or me imitating you?"
At the museum you will find many mementoes of the clown's life: his chair, his guitar, the red dress and the big shoes. There are also photographs, letters and documents among the many items donated by the artist before his death.
